JEE Main 2018 - (2016 - 2018) Study Plan

Dream - Plan - Believe - Act - Succeed.

Have Self Control - Every day complete the study as per plan.

Have Grit - Failure on any day or in any topic should not affect you. Replan to master it.  For any reason if you could not complete a day's work, replan and complete the task as fast as possible. If you find a problem difficult, mark it and redo it till it becomes easy for you to solve it. That is understand the principles or technique of solving it. Then it becomes very easy or common sense problem. You solve it as you read it.

First Year Study Plan Chemistry (2016-17) for JEE 2018

(From http://iit-jee-2011.blogspot.com/2009/04/iit-jee-2011-chemistry-annual-study_15.html)

Links take you to the detailed study plan of the chapter

Study Schedule for Each Day When to start

Make efforts to remember the materials learned in the X class during April 2016 if X examinations are over.

According to my thinking, the preparation for JEE must start right from the day, the X class examinations are over. The attitude must be to remember the materials learned in the X class. A revision of the X material after the examination will lay the firm foundation for JEE preparation and help you to comprehend the material much better.

May to December must be used to complete the entire syllabus of 11th class. Read the lessons in your XI class text and simultaneously read the material in JEE level texts that you buy. Approximately 3 lessons, one each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics  must be completed every 10 days. That way you can read 9 lessons a month. In eight months you can complete 72 lessons. As the books are written you may not have 24 chapters in every subject. But some chapters are very big and you can practically treat them as two chapters and schedule them accordingly.

That will give you time to revise you XI material during January-April to concentrate on Board examinations and other subjects in the course. You have to score well in board examinations also. Remember that the correlation is very high between board performance and JEE performance.

I recommend a three hour examination every two weeks with cumulative syllabus in the first year. Every alternate week, a one and half examination could be there in one lesson each of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Prepare and write the examination conducted by your coaching institute enthusiastically. Your positive attitude right from the day one will help you immensely. Cooperate with your teachers. They know the material, examination pattern a lot and scheduling of learning sessions.

Even people taking postal coaching should follow this pattern. They should request their parents to organize the test for them every week. By requesting parents, one will put a monitor to himself to adhere to a time table.

How many hours one has to study for JEE?

A general prescription is 10 hours a day. One can make an individual judgment with the overall constraint that you have to reach a level of having the ability to write an examination in the material that you have studied. You have to study 9 lessons every month. You divide the time in the ratio of 2:1 for Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics and other subjects. They are also important for overall knowledge.

Preparing a revision notes as you study is important because that will reduce the time spent by you in revising earlier lessons later on. I prepared number of revision material blogs to provide you a starting point and you can modify them according to your preference and importance attached to a point.

What are the recommended books for JEE?

Physics - I like H.C. Verma for Physics

Chemistry - Dr. Jauhar

and NCERT for Chemistry
R.K. Mukherjee is good for additional problems

Mathematics - For Mathematics, R D Sharma is good.

Objective Mathematics for JEE
Mathematics for CBSE XI
Mathematics for CBSE XII

The above books are JEE levels books and I recommend you give full attention to your board books during the classes and learn additional issues from JEE level books.

Study plan: Every day four and half hours are to be spent to do the first reading, answering questions and problem solving.

First Reading First 10 Days - One Hour - Revision Next 10 Days - Half an Hour

For each chapter first ten day period is detailed reading and one hour is to be spent. For the next ten days, the period is treated as revision period for the chapter and half an hour is spent. Thus one and half hours are to be spent for each subject and three subjects require four and half hours of study.

Every student has to customize this plan harmonize with the chapter being covered in his regular class or coaching class. You insert the chapter that is being covered in your class in the place of chapter planned here and shift one chapter forwards. You will save time and learn better that way. Harmonize your reading with the chapter being covered in your class. But you have to take responsibility for self study, and for covering and completing the portion by December.

  1. Hello Mr. Rao,

very useful post for JEE aspirant. A detailed study plan is always
    key of success.

I would like to share a online JEE platform for JEE preparation where student can find study material, video lesson, Mock test and more which helps a lot in preparation.

  2. Breaking the JEE Advanced requirements one to have an exceptionally all around organized investigation procedure. It requests the understudies to be scholastically solid and in addition have different aptitudes like diagnostic abilities, time administration, exam taking technique, and situational knowledge.Jee Main 2018 Form
